Chattanooga, Tenn (Aug. 23, 2017) – At today's Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting, two of the Chamber's 12 area Councils and several Chamber ambassadors received recognition.
The Chamber named its Downtown Council the Council of the Year for bridging gaps between business and education in its footprint.
“We had an outstanding board of well-rounded individuals and great organizations from all around Chattanooga,” said Joey Greer, Past President of the Downtown Council. “We did a debate for the mayors’ race and were able to donate funds back to education. Our board deserves this; it’s awesome.”
The North Hamilton County Council received the Membership Growth Award for recruiting 14 new Chamber members in 2016-17.
The Chamber honored Amy Allara Kinworthy, Chattanooga Zoo, as Ambassador of the Year.
“I love going to ribbon cuttings and helping businesses and people get connected because that’s what Chattanooga is all about,” Kinworthy said.
“While our Annual Meeting always represents a chance to celebrate our members, this year was especially meaningful as we recognize our volunteers’ contribution to being named 2017 ACCE Chamber of the Year,” said Sandra Brewer, Vice President of Member-Investor Services. “Immediately after winning Chamber of the Year, senior Chamber staff made plans to visit all 12 Councils to share the award.”
About Chamber Councils
The Chattanooga Chamber's 12 area Councils are the backbone of the Chamber's volunteer presence. The Councils support businesses in more specific geographic areas within our community. They provide opportunities for our members to get involved in solving problems, discussing issues and supporting events and civic projects that benefit businesses, schools and other constituencies within the Council's footprint. Each Council serves the unique needs of its members with its own board, strategic plan, annual budget, programs and initiatives.
About the Ambassador Program
The Chamber's Ambassador program consists of an elite group of professionals who are highly visible volunteers in the Chattanooga business community. Ambassadors assist in Chamber member retention efforts, recruiting and mentoring new members. Ambassadors also assist at ribbon cuttings and other Chamber events.
